Summer will be ending soon, not that it has been particularly summery yet this year. I’m already thinking ahead to winter and wondering what the weather may be like. If it’s cold, you know that it’s going to take all your willpower to climb out from under the duvet and face the world. But the wintertime is actually one of the best times to increase your activity. And it’s not just about keeping warm!
More and more people are taking their holidays or vacations in the winter. It’s not just about being cheaper. And no, they’re not all heading to sunnier, warmer climates. There are dozens of really great activities you can enjoy in those countries that see the most snowfall in winter. And it just so happens that these are the countries with the most stunning winter landscapes.
If you’re looking forward to some Lapland winter activities this year, you won’t be disappointed. This is a part of the world that is simply gorgeous when covered in a blanket of fresh snow. It’s so pure and crisp that it sparkles. And who doesn’t love that incredible crunch sound as you sink a snowboot into a fresh fall of snow?
Lapland also offers some amazing wildlife to spot. Wolves, reindeer, and other winter creatures are up and about throughout the season. They offer the happy tourist some amazing photo opportunities. But if you’re up for some serious action, why not head out across the vast wilderness of Northern Europe on a snowmobile? It doesn’t take long to learn to drive one, and it won’t take you long to get wherever you want to go either!
Dog sledding can be just as exciting, and probably just as noisy. The dogs love it and so will you as you run, push and love being pulled along by these furry beauties. Perhaps you’d prefer something a little more magical? If it’s been a childhood dream of yours to ride in Santa’s sleigh, then a sleigh ride pulled by reindeer could be a pretty close alternative. And who says they won’t take you all the way to Santa anyway?
Perhaps one of the best activities you can enjoy in the snow is trekking. You can use snowshoes to plough your way across the landscape. It’s a great way to improve and test your fitness. You’ll be burning plenty of calories, so treat yourself to a well-deserved hot chocolate when you get back. There is a lot of forest and also barren wilderness to explore when you take a winter break in a place like Lapland.
Of course, there is always skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing to enjoy too. And you should never turn down an opportunity to get involved in a snowball fight. The snow can be so much fun. All you need to do is dress for the weather, and you can have hours of excitement and activity every day. Winter doesn’t need to be dull. And a winter holiday can be one of the best breaks away you ever take. Enjoy.
