Something that most of us long for are the secrets to living a long and happy life. We also want to stay as healthy as possible in the process. Such a goal is pretty much the Holy Grail for many of us! But, I'm here today to tell you that I think I've stumbled across those secrets!
Well, it turns out they aren't secrets at all really. They are just common sense tips that most of us already know about. But, few of us follow those tips. As a result, we end up feeling unhealthy. And many people even end up looking older than they are!
Don't worry! In today's blog post, I'm going to offer you a round-up of those tips for increasing your longevity. Here is what you need to know:
Keep your stress levels down
It's a well-known fact you need a healthy mind to have a healthy body. If you're always feeling stressed, it will impact other areas of your life. One of the things it will impact, of course, is your physical fitness.
You may start to feel more lethargic than usual. And, quite frankly, you won't be much fun to be around! If you're a stress-head, take a different perspective in life. It might shock you to discover that you are getting stressed for no valid reason!
Have a balanced diet
Most of us are guilty of indulging in food that isn't good for us. To be honest, that's not a bad thing. But, what is bad is when you have more of those foods and less of the healthy ones! So, if your dinner regime consists of fatty foods most nights, it's time to stop!
For years, the benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables have been discussed. No-one is saying you should give up having a pizzas or burgers. What you need to do is balance those foods with healthy meals. Don't forget that fruit and vegetables have a tonne of nutrients that your body needs to function well.
Do some exercise
We have a family friend that has just started his retirement. He is in his late 60s, but he doesn't look a day over 45! I was intrigued and one day asked him what his secret was. Aside from healthy eating, he told me that he exercises virtually every day!
Don't get me wrong. This isn't a guy that used to be a bodybuilder or anything like that. He just spends his spare time cycling or trekking across the country. He's never had to deal with any major medical issues.
Don't spend so much time in the sun
When the sun is out, there is a temptation to sit outside and soak up those rays. Believe it or not, achieving a bronze complexion is a bad idea. For a start, you increase your chances of getting skin cancer. Second, you might doze off and end up looking like a lobster when you wake up. And, third, you do permanent damage to your skin.
On that latter point, as you age, your skin will become quite wrinkled and unsightly. You can avoid that by not spending so much time in the sun. If you do need your sunshine fix, avoid going out between 11am and 3pm.
