My Self-Tanning Routine

Now that summer is upon us it is time to get tanning. Like many other people nowadays I'd rather fake it than risk ruining my skin by baking in the sun or using sunbeds. It has taken me a while to find my perfect fake tanning routine but now I think I have finally cracked it.


My Self-Tanning Routine



Day 1

I will jump in the bath or shower and exfoliate my face and body thoroughly, using a body scrub. Currently I am using Sanctuary Spa gentle polish body scrub. As soon as I get out of the bath/shower and I am completely dry, I apply moisturiser to my face and body. I am currently using Espa 24-hour balancing moisturiser and Sanctuary Spa sleep comforting night butter

Day 2

Before applying my fake tan, I apply a thin layer of moisturiser to my face, feet, hands, elbows and knees. This will prevent any fake tan clinging to these areas, which are most susceptible to dry patches. Once my moisturiser has soaked into my skin I will apply my fake tan. The one I am using at the moment is Sunkissed dark bronze instant self-tanning mousse. Using a mitt I begin applying my tan at my feet, working upwards and finishing with my face. I apply the tan using circular motions to prevent any patchiness. I let this dry for roughly 8 hours and then rinse the guide colour off in the bath/shower. After getting out I will pat myself dry with my towel (no vigorous rubbing) and apply more moisturiser all over. 

Day 3

I will apply more moisturiser to my face and body to keep my skin moisturised and to help my tan fade evenly.

Day 4

Again, I will apply moisturiser to my face and body but this time I will exfoliate beforehand to remove any dead skin cells, helping my tan to fade evenly. 

Day 5

On the fifth day of my fake-tanning routine I will apply a gradual tanner to my face and body. This will help to add a little more colour and help my tan to last longer. I am currently using Cocoa Brown self-tan gentle bronze .

That's pretty much it. I will usually apply my fake tan once a week or fortnightly, depending on my mood or preference.
