* We’ve all experienced the horror of looking in the mirror and seeing a pair of puffy, dark eyes staring back at us. Dark circles can make us look exhausted, unhealthy and older. However, it’s important not to let tired eyes get you down. There are many beauty tips you can add to your daily regime that will prevent and deal with dark circles. Let’s take a look:

1 Get plenty of sleep

The most obvious place to start is with sleep. Dark circles and bags around our eyes are most common after a bad night’s rest. So plenty of rest is one of the most effective preventative measures for dark circles. You know yourself how much sleep you need to wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead - so do aim to get this amount each night. However, this can be easier said than done if you are stressed or living a busy lifestyle. If you are having problems sleeping, there are a number of effective techniques you can try. For example, you could listen to relaxation music, have a bath or drink chamomile tea to help you prepare for a good night’s sleep.

2 Use an eye product twice a day

For healthy, radiant looking eyes, you should apply an eye gel to the area in the morning and before you go to bed. Such products will contain ingredients such as caffeine and vitamin C to reduce puffiness and loose skin in this delicate area.

3 Use the right concealer

The skin beneath your eyes is very delicate and should be treated gently. Many women make the mistake of applying a product that is too harsh and dry for this area. A light, cream concealer will deal with dark circles without cracking and seeping into the fine lines around the eyes. It is also advised that you pick a concealer with a yellow base as this will neutralise the dark colours around your eyes.

4 Apply your products correctly

Another error that many women make when covering dark circles is to use products liberally all around the eye. Beauty professionals recommend that creams should only be applied to the darkened areas of your skin. Using a brush, you should gently apply your concealer or moisturiser to the darkened areas and then use your fingers to blend the cream.

5 Give your eyes some TLC

Your eyes need lots of love and attention to ensure they look radiant, however, many people neglect to include their peepers as part of their beauty regime. There are many home remedies you can use to care for your eyes. For example, cucumbers have skin lightening properties and create a refreshing effect when placed on the eyes for 10 minutes or so. Make sure you schedule some eye care time each week to keep your eyes looking lovely.

Dark circles can make you look and feel run down. However, with a little care and attention you can prevent and deal with them effectively.
